Despite loving bright mornings, warm air and having a glowing tan, my favourite time of the year is Christmas! It always has been and I think it more than likely always will be. I’m a September baby so once my birthday is out of the way, that’s it – Christmas is coming and I excitedly count down the days. I know so many people love this time of the year, but if you are a rare individual who doesn’t, here’s why I think you should!
I mean, if you work late then this is actually probably the worst thing. I start work early and I’ll admit there’s nothing worse than having to get up while it’s still dark outside but on the evening I love it. The darkness makes being cuddled indoors so cosy and relaxing!
What’s better than sitting by a fire when it’s absolutely freezing outside? Even the look alone of a fire makes me feel relaxed and am I the only person who loves the sound of a crackling log fire?
Fluffy socks, dressing gown, fluffy pyjamas, slippers, blankets, hats, scarves, gloves – anything and everything warm! Winter fashion in general is one of my favourites and nothing beats being nice and snug wrapped up in multiple layers.
I don’t like hot drinks other than hot chocolate and I only drink it at this time of year. The festive flavours are the best and of course the cups! I’ve tried the chocolate orange and toasted marshmallow hot chocolate from Costa and the chocolate fudge hot chocolate from Starbucks so far this year – I definitely reccommend.
Unfortunately in Bristol, snow is actually v e r y rare but I revert to a 3 year old child whenever the word snow is mentioned. I endlessly check the weather forecasts and constantly look out to the lamposts to see if even one speck has dropped. Nothing demonstrates Christmas better than snow. I’ll admit the sloshy icy nastiness that proceeds isn’t the best but doesn’t everybody LOVE snow?
Something about fairy lights just makes everything seem so much more pretty, festive and calming. I would hang fairy lights absolutely everywhere if I could.
Christmas movies are some of the best movies as they generally will always have a happy ending, they tend to be fun, family orientated and light hearted – the perfect cheer up movies. I might actually do a blog post of my favourite Christmas movies.
Chocolate (food in general)
If you’re like me and you are a fatty at heart then surely you must already love Christmas? It’s the one time of year you’re allowed to be eating absolutely everything and the excuse of ‘I’ll start in the New year’ just seems to make this acceptable. I applaud you if you actually start in the New year as I fail miserably every year.
Again, if you like your alcohol [actually one point that isn’t relevant to me] – surely you must already love Christmas. It’s another time when it is generally socially acceptable to drink as much as you like and just fully enjoy yourself.
Everybody seems happier at Christmas time and there is generally a really happy, positive vibe amongst most people – other than the Scrooges of the world.
There’s amazing smells associated with Christmas. Whether it’s the sweet smell of baking, cinnamon spice or mulled wine, everything smells amazing at Christmas time. Candles are the best around this time of year because the flame adds another relaxing aspect to the season.
Basically… I love Christmas, can you tell?!
